The International Library of Poetry

Dear Readers,

I am writing to inform you and warn you in order that perhaps I may help you prevent yourself being scammed out of your hard earned cash from The International Library of Poetry .

Little over 2 weeks ago or so, I came across a poetry competition on facebook with prize money of $10,000. So me being me, decided I might as well enter. I am not blessed with great literary talent but figured it would be something that would pass my time and 'you gotta be in it to win it' after all.

The last couple of days have seen me receive two emails praising my efforts and encouraging me to pay 70 dollars to become a member and pay additional money to get a watch and an engraved bronze medallion recognising my achievements as a literary genius.

Considering I spent 5-10 minutes on maybe 3 or four poems entered, I was flattered but not deceived. I conducted a little research online and it appears that almost everybody gets these emails encouraging them to invest money and because the email makes them believe they have some genuine talent worth investing in, many a poor persons must have lost their hard earnt cash in pursuing the dream this scam offers.

Furthermore, it has come to my attention that the work you publish which they tell you is copyrighted when you publish it - is not actually copyrighted and so you are in danger of it being stolen.

Fortunately - the work I submitted was carried out quickly and was not personal and doesnt mean anything to me - but think of others who may have pourred their hearts and souls into their poetry and invested their money only to discover they have been had.

My message is simple - be careful. think twice and then think again!

The Voice of Human Justice

Dear Readers,

I came across a magnificent book called 'The voice of human justice' by George Jordac in my dad's library little over an hour ago and having read the first chapter, feel compelled to recommend the book to everybody.

The book is a biography of Ali ibn Abu Talib (as)- the cousin and son in law of the prophet of Islam, Muhammad (pbuh and his family). What makes this book so special is that it is written by a Christian man who recognises the greatness of Imam Ali so much better than so many muslims.

Reading the recognition of the greatness of the man from a person outside the folds of my religion brought tears to my eyes. It is tragic that with such characters sent to us for our benefit we find a way to fight with each other and kill innocent people.

How anyone purporting to be a follower of the religion of Ali can do injustice in the name of Ali's religion is absolutely preposterous.

Generally speaking, biographies of saints are difficult to appreciate because the writers of such biographies adhere to the belief that they were saints. However, when finding a neutral who tells it the way it is - thats the real beuaty.

I tell you - if you want to know about the second greatest man who has lived on our planet after Prophet Muhammad and from the perspective of a non-muslim - read the voice of human justice by George Jordac.

Simply fantastic.

Tidying up

Readers,

As some of you are probably all too aware - I am quite a messy person - by nature of course! Today I decided to have a bit of a tidy up and its amazing the things you find when you empty out a cupboard that you have been putting miscellaneous crap that you arent quite sure that you want to get rid off for the last 3 years or so.

Add that to the fact that the guy using the wardrobe before you - in this case my older brother - had the exact same idea for the 10 or so years preceding my time with the cupboard and what you find that you have is - chaos!

Absolutely useless junk. I found three walkmans. You would probably be hard pressed to find someone to take one of those things of you today and yet here I am - the not so proud owner of three of them. Owner? well possession is ninth tenths of the law - surely you knew that right? Anyway - as you can imagine - the three walkmans along with the few 'Now 45' tapes which I was not the one to buy before you all start judging me - will all go to the bin. If I want to listen to S Club 7- well not that I would admit to anyway - but there is always youtube and mp3 players!

Incidentally I also came across a couple of vhs videos and old old textbooks from both my brothers uni days and my own. What I have learnt is that while most books are timeless - textbooks designed for students are certainly not! Thats right ladies and gentlemen - they are probably all going to have to be recycled.
The lesson to be learnt is that if you are studying - then sell your textbooks from the previous year - fast and cheap because if you dither - you may find them in your cupboard in 5 years time with the same dilema I face today. Do not say you were not warned!

The other interesting thing that came out of all this is that old diaries are fantastic! I was just scanning through a diary from 2001 and its amazing the amount of memories you can pick up from writing down a few words for each day.

So - the bit where I have to make my point..

Dont put off cleaning because you too may find some amazing treasures!

Why?

Readers,

Why was Steve Mclaren appointed as England manager when it was clear to everyone before his tenure started that he was not the right man for the job?

Why was he given a four year contract?

Why was he paid a staggering 2 million pounds pay off for failing to qualify?

Why is the world of football so disproportionate to the real world that everybody else lives in?

Its unbelievable - that is what it is.

Just a week or so ago - I wrote to thank Israel for doing their bit to get England to the euros. To be fair to Israel, its not their fault Mclaren was incapable of selecting, organising and motivating a team to achieve a draw against a team that had nothing to play for.

What hurts the most is Mclaren says the day of his sacking is the saddest day of his life - well what about the day before you clown? Remember - when YOUR inability to do your job properly meant that YOUR country did not qualify for a major international tournament for the first time in over a decade? What a selfish jerk - I try not to judge - honestly I do - perhaps not hard enough but I do dammit.

Still when Mclaren says it hurts more to lose his job than England not qualifying when it is so patently clear for the whole world to see it was his fault we didnt qualify - well it jars me. Whats more is that this man is not being sacked just like that - he is being paid more money than 99.9% of humans who have lived, live or are going to live in this world are ever going to see - and for what? for failing to do his job properly!!!

I was told by a friend recently and by employers in the past that it is the easiest thing to be a critique and criticise everything. Ironically the title of this whole blog - you know the 'random positivity' thing was meant to be semi ironic but still... sometimes its just bloody necessary to vent.

I couldnt find the energy or the words to describe how I felt at England's failure to qualify - and now that I have - its coming out in spades, - spades of anger at the clown - you know the rich one!

We havent finished paying off the last sacked manager and so when we appoint the next England manager - we are going to be paying three men at the same time to be doing one job.

All I have to say is

Why?

*(No)* Thank you Israel!!!! *(in spite of your best efforts, We (Engerland still managed to get ourselves out of Euro 2008!)*

Readers,

I am writing upon hearing the news that Israel have just gone and done England a massive favour in the Football European Championships 2008 Qualifying Group!

After the doom and gloom this country felt just a month or so ago - it is amazing to feel on top of the world again such a short time afterwards and even more amazingly so because we (England) didnt even kick a football this glorious evening! - Thats right for all of you who dont know - England needed Israel to avoid defeat against Russia today to realistically stand a chance of qualifying for next years European Championships! And they not only avoided defeat - they went and beat the Russians! YES!!!!

Every time I talked to friends or read about England, somebody was blasting Mclaren (AKA McClown - the 'England Coach' and I use that expression loosely since it is Mclaren we are talking about here!)or the players or both and maybe they deserved it - but after all that has been said and done - a draw at home to Croatia who have already qualified will take us to Austria and Switzerland next year summer time!!

What a let off! Before the game - the Israel coach was talking about how he hoped Russia would qualify and when you add that to the fact that Israel were already out of the competition and were only playing for national pride - it was the pefect recipe for disaster (for England).

Yet here we are - one month on from that painful night in Moscow - all is forgiven.
The future is bright again and we even have me uttering three words I never thought I would - lets hope it is the first and last time.

Oh sod it - one more because I am that happy right now.

*(No)* Thank you Israel!!!!!!!

*( In spite of your best efforts - We (Engerland) still didnt qualify for Euro 2008 and so now all we got left to think about when we hear 'Israel' is how you stole my muslim brethren's land!)*

Unbelievable!

Readers,

I am writing to report that I came across some simply astonishing news on the daily mirror website today.

The news heading was 'Man weds dog' so I quickly assumed that he must have been drunk - woke up the next morning - probably in Vegas because lets be honest now - thats where most of these stupid things are most likely to happen - but anyway you know what they say about assumptions - if you dont - look it up - its not pretty!

In a nutshell - my assumption was totally off the mark. This man wasn't drunk when he married the dog - no - rather he knew exactly what he was doing and had even convinced himself that there was a logical reason for marrying a dog. What logical reason can this man possibly have I hear you cry - well.... this is the best part my dear readers...

The reason was that he needed to end a curse caused by this man stoning two dogs to death 15 years earlier. I was gobsmacked. I dont know what more to tell you. I am guessing that some of you dont even believe me - to which I say to you - here is the link:

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weirdworld/2007/11/14/man-weds-dog-89520-20104494/

To be fair - I am struggling to believe it myself!

What makes the story all the more ridiculous is that the dog in the wedding picture is dressed nicer than some brides can afford to dress themselves in some poorer countries. How tragic!!!

And I am guessing you all think that you have heard the worst of it - I wish that was the truth but unfortunately there is more.

This is not the first time a human has decided to tie the knot with an animal - there have been reported cases of women marrying dolphins and cobras of all animals!
So all you women out there who were laughing to yourselves about how men can be so stupid - you were wrong - both sexes have people of incredible nuttiness amongst us!

So there you have it - if anyone tells you humans today are intellectually superior to the cavement of the past - you have the ammo ready to refute the claim and provide evidence which will not only shock and educate your opponent - but also entertain them too.

Its been a pleasure.

Is there really no such thing as a stupid question?

Dearest Readers,

Is the title of this blog entry a stupid question in itself?
Clearly I would not have asked it if I considered it to be one as it human nature to judge people in accordance with the questions they ask!

It has often been suggested you should never feel shy to ask a question because there is definitely at least one other person present who is gagging to ask precisely the same question but is simply too shy and thus by you asking this question, you will benefit both yourself and the people who also had the same question also.

I am not one to subscribe to this logic. This is not to say that you should not ask your questions but rather you must contemplate the relevancy your question has to the discussion going on at the time.

For example, if there is a conference on how to improve your sales skills, you shouldnt ask a question on whether God exists!

This is not to say that the question on the existence of God is stupid or that the person who is answering the questions is not capable - or in fact that no other people have the same question and would love to know the speakers thoughts on this issue - but rather that this should not be asked because this question does not belong in this particular conference.

Likewise if there a bunch of trainspotters holding a meeting and one asks the other how many trains have you counted in the last 2 weeks, what were their colours and how many carriages did each one have? - it is not stupid because it belongs in that meeting although it wouldnt necessarily belong in any other meeting anywhere else on earth or even mars!

Thus - the answer to my own question is that there really well and truly is no such thing as an inherently stupid question but rather there are perfectly intelligent and logical questions which are posed at a time and place which they dont belong rendering the illusion that it is the question itself which is stupid.

Peace.

Is England a country?

Dear Readers,

From the topic of this post, I can sense the confused looks on all your faces with the abusive tone shouting at your monitors imagining my face: 'of course it bloody is!!! we won the world cup back in 66 dint we!'

But i then say to you - if England is a country - then what is the United Kingdom? Is the UK not a country?

If the UK is not a country - how come the UK competes in the olympics as a single country rather than as England?

I was watching a television program where this question was raised and the results were astounding.

Britain means England and Wales
Great Britain means England, Wales and Scotland
and the UK means Great Britain PLUS Northern Ireland.

Hearing this on my telly, I werent really happy so I had a look online and this only caused more confusion. So much divided opinion - you would think everyones a bleedin scholar in the field of UK Geography!!

so my next step was to consult my wise cousin - the good news was he didnt pretend to know the answer - he explained that there was a lot of debate and that there was no definitive correct answer. What he did do however was put in a beautiful way which I am going to quote herein:

If you try to put round pegs in square holes, you will be going round in circles forever.

Thus suffice it to say 'I know not whether England is a country as it is a question deeply rooted in subjectivity' or for those chavs out there:
'Who bloody knows wevva or not England is a country when every tom, dick and 'arry reckons somefin different!'

Hope we have all gained somethin from this...

Is Chris Rock the funniest man alive?

Dear Readers,

I was fortunate enough to get the chance to catch a repeat of one of Chris Rock's gigs from around 10 years ago recently and it prompted me to discuss this on my blog.

I was moved to tears of laughter - it was humour brought to life - the proof? my tea became a bit salty!

but on a serious note - it was really good - he discussed some very interesting topics - without copying his jokes - he said the following:

knock knock - jus kidding!! his humour was far more sophisticated than that.

it was more like 'there was an englishman, scottish man and irish man right..'

ok ok - i lie again... for real though, he was discussing deep stuff like Should we be hating on former president Clinton for his thing with Monica Legwinsky and mens lies vs womens lies.

So you see - some pretty juicy topics for humour.

I would recommend everyone to download it and hear it if you get the chance.
It was called Bigger and Blacker if i recall correctly - there was more than his fair share of foul language in it but if you can get over that - its an absolute gem.

Its prompted me to answer my own question with a resounding 'well he is definitely the funnest man I have come across on the box!'

check it out for yourself - this is a part of it from youtube... if ya like - you can always hunt it down on the net! and if ya dont - your loss!

Thats about all from me.

silence

Dear Readers,

Do you enjoy your own company? Do you crave an empty house so you can be at one with yourself? Do you think other people just get in the way of your alone time?
Do you think you should stop reading right about now because you dont like the answers to the questions I am posing? ok ignore that last one!

I have always considered myself good company - you know I tell myself a knock knock joke or two, maybe one about lawyers to make me feel better about not carrying my law career all the way through till fruition, a couple about mother in laws to remind me why i am not yet married and then i can be merry till I have some real company again - but today silence is not so golden!!

I find the frustration of there being nothing entertaining on telly an absolute nuisance. If I am really honest I even pulled out an old GCSE mathematics revision text book to have a look at how those dreaded simultaneous equations work - all that taught me was I am damn lucky I finally passed that pain in the place where the sun dont shine subject and I should be thankful and let it be!

So from the boredom of my own jokes I have repeated to myself umpteen times to the rigours of GCSE mathematics, I could bear it no more. I had to come online and just type something on this blog thingymajig to make myself feel a bit better - suffice it to say its not working!!!

I tell you good people what though - last night me and my cousins - or my cousins and I (as my english textbooks willl have me believe it should be said!) spent a great deal of time watching random stuff on youtube.

If you ever find yourself in a position as I am now, some good clips on youtube we saw last night are:

'Amazing Beat Box' (what you got to type into the search box)
'best penalty ever' - must see 10 second clip - still funny after watching it umpteen times!!
'Optical Illusion No.2' - amaazing - must see!!

And if you are a football fan or just enjoy seeing well paid clowns missing really good chances to score a goal that your grandmas could probably score with her eyes closed - check out:

'football's worst misses compilation'

on that note - i shall leave ya all to it and try and find something else to do to entertain myself while i got the house to myself.

Peace out.

The Numbers Game

Dear Readers,

No I am not going to talk to you about how great sudoku is or give you tips on how to clock your puzzles!!

Right now we cleared that misconception up - we can continue.

For many years - particularly when I was a kid growing up - I wondered what number I could count to. Now I know you are probably thinking I am sad, but stay with me on this one.

Counting to ten, a hundred, a thousand, ten thousand, and a hundred thousand was easy enough but then it started getting really boring!
But do you know what I did? I fought the boredom barrier and got through to the promiseland - thats right - i hit the magic million!!

Problem was I realised then that i didnt know when the next magic point was - did i have to get to 10 'million' before we are dealing in something other than millions? Or was it one hundred million? Was it one thousand million? Or heaven forbid it was a million bleedin million because that would take bloody long to count - you may have gathered I had litle to no life back then but goodness gracious - a million bloody million!!!

So do you know what I did? I gave up and forgot about it- forgot all about it - till today at least!!

Still thankfully we got wikpedia these days so I managed to get the answer to the question I have wanted for many years. No no not the one about the 'meaning of life' but the next best thing! Jeez - wikpedia is good but it aint thaaat good!!

So anyway - the answer to the question I along with no doubt millions or billions (depending on which view you subscribe to) want the answer to!

Here it is: You can call 1,000 million a billion if you want to or you can a million million (1,000,000,000,000) a billion if you want and that in England it was common for a million million to be called a billion but these days it is more common for just a thousand million to be called a billion.

Now I know you are all grinning ear to ear with the thirst for that piece of knowledge quenched at last and are probably also wondering 'hmm so what is a trillion then?'

I couldnt bring myself to wikpedia it today - I figured to save the excitement for another day - to let the numbers game become a regular thing.

I hope you have enjoyed this spoonful of education.

'What bugs us the most?'

Readers,

I came across this really interesting article in the daily mirror today - far be it from me to advertise tabloid newspapers - but it is really good on Saturdays because you get all the cheesy build up to the weekend football as well as the tv guide for the whole week - anyway - without further sidetracking - I read an interesting article in there. It was about what bugs us the most.

Interestingly the no.1 thing on the list was coldcalling. I was a little disappointed to be honest. I mean with cold callers - I actually enjoy the moment of desperation they exercise to try and keep me on the phone when I tell them in a loud, clear and matter of fact voice that 'I am going to hang up now' - in fact just thinking about it makes me wish one of those punks would call me right now!

Disappointingly - the 100th thing that bugs us the most was roadworks - surely surely surely thats gotta be higher up!

Have you ever seen the film called 'Falling Down'? with Michael Douglas? If not, check the film out - absolutely amazing - but the relevancy it has to this rant which appears to be quickly becoming irrelevant is that in the aforementioned film, Michael Douglas accuses one of the guys carrying out roadworks for doing the roadworks simply so that the government doesnt reduce funding the following year due to unused funds that year and the worker admitted it - GOT to make you wonder when you see roadworks all the time and roads never getting any better!

Having read the list, I pondered over the fact that it was a fantastic idea for an article but was bemused by the fact that the thing that bugs me the most is lists of things that dont place the things in the list in the right order!!!

Other interesting things on the list were slow interent connection, Britney Spears and the Royal Mail (presumably because they are always on strike!)

Anyway, I thought I would encourage the rhetorical question to you all - what bugs YOU the most?

Slapstick Comedy

Readers,

It is human nature to laugh at people hurting themselves, damaging their property or both at the same time out of sheer stupidity. Its not the best thing about us - perhaps we ought to be more compassionate but then we would miss out on slapstick comedy - which is arguably the funniest - after sarcasm of course which is commonly known as the highest form of wit(!)

Anyway - on the topic of slapstick comedy - you good people have got to see this video.

I saw it ages ago and forgot about it - still i was just on youtube and crashed it into it again and thought I have got to share this fantastic clip.

I am a strong advocate of 'its the little things in life that make it so good!' like a cup of tea in the morning or watching this clip on youtube whenever you feel a bit sad!!

Take care people and remember - laughing at other peoples misfortune is ok - hell some people make a living out of doing stupid things to have people laugh at them!
(Take that most horrendously stupid show 'Jackass' and watch it for a few minutes if you dont believe me!)

Ciao

Laughter

Dear Readers,

Ramadan is over so thankfully we can all return to eating and drinking sensible amounts in sensible doses again!
Unfortunately - i caught a bug so was unable to fast the last day but thankfully I have recovered now with no serious dramas - such as having to visit my Dr, the hospital or worse! (Pukin' in the dustbin was about as bad as it got but thats a little too much information so lets quickly move on!)

My random thought for the day is that we dont spend enough time making up, telling, reading or forwarding jokes on!

We only live on this planet for such a short time and it has often been suggested that humour and laughing are a massive coping mechanism humans have been given because without it - we would actually all go insane or worse - become 'clinically depressed' God Forbid!!

Now I cant really think of any jokes of the top of my head - but my bro made a really good joke site many moons ago (www.just-jokes.co.uk for those of you who are interested) and i really recommend you visit it or other joke sites/joke books etc at least once a day!

Recently I got into 'Scrubs' (repeats on Paramount) - and what I realised is that I am probably at my happiest when watching that awesome sit-com!!

No-one is suggesting you use all your spare time giggling at your monitor or telly - but making some time to laugh every day is guaranteed to increase the quality of your life and i will go out and put my head on the block and even say probably quantity!

Take it easy folks and happy gigglin'

Gambling

Dear Readers,

It appears that laws regarding advertising bookmakers and the 'joys' of gambling have changed and it is now on our tv sets!

I personally am shocked and appalled at this as it is a well known and accepted fact that gambling is a destructive disease that can destroy peoples lives!

It was only in yesterday's newspaper that I was reading about a guy called Paul Sadler who stole 4 million pounds over a few years to fund what is a self admitted gambling problem!

Was this a poor man who had to rely on the sheer luck of betting on games of chance? No - this was a wealthy business man who didnt even do it for the need of money!
You can read this whole story at http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2007/10/07/2994752.htm

Do you think that this is an isolated case? If so you are naieve - but to further prove my own point I was also reading about a chinese man who made his living in trafficking babies in China. This man also admits that he sold his own child to fund his drinking and gambling addictions. (http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/2007/10/08/evil-of-the-baby-traders-89520-19912916/)

It is tragic that in this country 'freedom of speech' and freedom of expression are allowing such vices as gambling to be glorified and enriched through celebrity endorsement.

Think about it - when do you ever hear of a bookmaker going bust? NEVER - in fact new ones appear to be opening up all the time.

Why? Because it is the greatest hustle of all. Beware - you now can no longer say you werent warned.

But is it enough to know the dangers yourself and simply steer clear? For me its not - I feel as though we must petition for the laws to be changed back to the way they were. It would be even better to illegalise gambling as a whole rather than the mere advertising of it but I am a realistic person and you must take a step at a time.

Kindly pass the message to petition against the new legislation on gambling on.
This can be done at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Ban-TV-Gamb-Ads/

It will take a few moments of your time but its for the betterment of our society and if we allow ourselves and children to be taught to gamble through advertising, then who knows what will be permissible through advertising next?

On this note, I will leave you all to ponder where you stand and hope you all sign the petition and spread the message on to your friends and family to also sign the petiton.

Peace.

Fear

Readers,

What scares you the most? Ever taken a moment out to think about it?

My own personal pet fear is mice and sod's law - recently we had a few of them running around the kitchen!

Now I know for most of you - yoi probably think - mice? whats the big deal?
And to be fair mice run away at the sight of us humans - but still - I never said my fear was rational. After all - very few fears are rational!

As most of you are probably aware - its currently the month of ramadan and so us muslim folk cannot eat or drink during the day and therefore stock up during the night time hours. So yesterday around 3 in the morning, I was craving water to avoid dehydration during the day but had to give myself a 15 minute pep talk into going downstairs into the kitchen to face the possibility of seeing a mice for 2 seconds.

(They always run away as soon as I enter the kitchen! and i only catch a glimpse as they speed away)

Fortunately i didnt see one - drunk loads of water and had an easy fast today!

Still it did make me think - if I worry about something as small and meaningless as mice and other people worry about spiders, the human race as a whole has got a whole lot of growing up to do!!

I say from now on - lets all face our fears - be it going to sleep with the spider on the wall (not yet squashed by the bottom of your wellington boots!) or in my case - walk into the kitchen barefooted in the middle of the night and lets face our demons.

Unless of course you are in fear of genuinely scary things like tarantulas, wild animals etc in which case stay scared and keep away folks!

Anyway, talking it through has made me feel better. Hopefully I will have instant courage in a couple of hours or so time when its time to load up on the old H20.

Take it easy people and remember to be safe.

The Best Flight Ever

Readers,

I have arrived back home to good old London and thus the holiday is officially over, which sucks.

Still, its better to be thankful it happened than upset its over right?

I been back for a couple of days now but been so busy catching up with three weeks worth of neighbours episodes missed, unpacking and trying to overcome jetlag which I am still struggling with - that I havent been able to share the story of how fantastically lucky my plane ride home was!

First off - being an Indian - my suitcase was always going to be a tad on the heavy side - ok ok a lot on the heavy side! My allowance was 20 kg's - my suitcase weighed in at 23.5. Still, it was an asian lady who was checking my bags in and she must have understood the asian code of travelling (ie - gifts for everyone who is brown and you have spoken more than two words to in your entire life) - so anyway - she checks my bag in without batting an eyelid and also offered to hook me up with a window seat. So naturally I said yes - a plane ride is so long and boring that the only fun parts are take off and landing and what fun are those if you cant even look out the window to appreciate whats going on?

So with my flying experience already off to a flyer... when I got onto the aeroplane and took my seat right by the window, the plane quickly filled up. However, two of the very few seats on the plane which didnt get taken were the two seats next to me!

Thats right - as soon as the seatbelt sign came off - I could lie down and use the three pillows and blankets that were provided for me and my two non-existent buddies!
To make things even better - when lunch times came around - the good airhostesses provided me with food even though i hadnt requested them. still - dont look a gifthorse in the mouth - and if we are honest - plane food isnt exactly great or worth much!

So there you go.. back to the UK with all my luggage and given virtually a bed-like space to relax in for the duration of the flight - i bet there were ppl who travelled first class that didnt enjoy their flight as much as me - and to think the return trip costed just under £250.

God Bless MyTravel!!

Anger

Readers,

Felt angry recently? It isn't an emotion I personally experience a great deal but from my few and far between experiences of anger and through observation of other people when they are angry - what I have come to realise is that it is generally counterproductive.

We are at our best when we are cool, calm and collected. Therefore, why do we allow ourselves to slip into a rage when it impairs our skills to reason logically, our interpersonal skills and can cause sometimes irreparable damage?

Surely, by keeping your anger in check, you will control challenging situations with far greater skill than possible if you submit to the rage.

Furthermore, if you virtually eradicate your anger from your personality - imagine the effect it will have when you decide it must be utilised? People who are always angry or grumpy get ignored or dismissed because nobody can be bothered with constant negativity - lets be honest - its hard work. On the flip side - people who are always calm will have the whole world sit up and take notice when they decide an issue is worth getting angry about because their reputation of coolness personified being impregnable.

Anger has been made a part of our make-up so we cannot pretend it doesn't exist. However, utilise it too frequently and it will only come at a cost to yourselves.

As the old cliche says it so well - anger is only one letter short of Danger....

Stupidity

Readers,

Ever wondered what the true meaning of stupidity is? I am not talking about what the latest version of the Oxford dictionary tells you it means - rather a photograph or a short film which everybody who sees can for the rest of their lives say with all conviction on the issue - I know what stupidity is because I have seen it with my own eyes.

Dont get me wrong - I think if there is something you dont understand - go to the dictionary - it is an incredibly useful tool. However, the following link will allow you to see stupidity manifested rather than merely defined.

Now i think after watching it you should all thank the Lord for mercifully preventing you from turning out that stupid.

Reminds me of an Age Old quote that i think is absolutely genius:

'Better to be silent and considered an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt'.

Dont know who came up with this quotation but i tell you something for free. The lady in the video could sure benefit from that wisdom and soon before she commits more horrendous gaffes!

Ok thats all from me for today. Ciao.

Small Talk

Readers,

Ever wonder how many conversations you have had with people you dont really feel like talking to? I guarantee you its too numerous to recollect.

Being an Indian, it is almost guaranteed to happen to me every time i visit a shop owned by somebody who is also of the same skin colour as me - ie brown.
'Where are you from?' they always ask.
'England' I always used to reply proudly - I got the red passport, pay taxes (when working at least!) so surely i can use british as my nationality right? Wrong!
'No no, where are your parents from?'
'Oh right - i see - they are from East Africa'. (There's no lie here - that is well and truly where they are from)
'No no - where are they really from?'
Now by this stage I am thinking - why are all corner shops owned by Indians - i just wanna buy some milk so i can get home - get the kettle on and enjoy the latest episode of neighbours!
But by now - you know the conversation has almost come to its natural conclusion so you decide to polish it off as you have done in the past - 'oh riiight i see - we are Indian'.
The shopkeeper flashes his best smile baring all his teeth and then starts speaking in Urdu. Now of course *I* dont know what he is saying - so i politely tell him i dont speak urdu to which he half jokingly tells me i should be ashamed that i dont know my mother tongue even though urdu isnt even my mother tongue - and i sheepishly laugh - pay the man for the milk and curse myself for not saying I am Mauritius or something in the first place to avoid the unecessary stupidity involved in the lives of brown people trying to do some simple grocery shopping locally. - after all, this isnt the first time I have had such a conversation!

By now - i am assuming you are all wondering what the point i am trying to make actually is - i promise you when i started i thought it had one..

Something you can take from this I suppose is that next time someone talks to you about the weather - Thank the Lord with all your heart and soul that you are speaking the same language without any expectation to speak another language or any shame for being unable to speak another language wholly unrelated to you!

Right now - I need to go buy some milk for my tea!

Just kidding - its late and I am going to turn in for the night. Hopefully there will be milk in the fridge in the morning!

Ciao

Car Crash!!!!

Readers,

Post title get your attention? Well try daydreaming and crashing back to earth in the midst of the realisation the vehicle you are passively relaxing in on the backseat has just started playing bumper cars with the chap driving the car in front.

ok ok i admit it was nothing like that at all but I can now say that I have experienced my first car crash - and i was the passive passenger on the backseat. That aside - it was a fair bit different. A nutty driver pulled out onto the road in a junction in front of the car i was in and so my bro - the driver - changed lanes to try to allow the chap to go into his lane without bumping into him. Sounds all good yeh? Like - no problem - but no - there was one because the madman changed into my bros lane (the one he kindly moved into in the first place) - so my bro brakes hard and gives the madmans car a pat on the back who then went on his way - and fast - seems he didnt fancy stickin around to inspect the damage together and get the insurance companies involved.

Thank God - the damage on the car was very minor compared to what it could have been - and of course all the passengers and driver included were all alright.
So as far as car crashes go - it was perfect... no injuries and minimum damage to the vehicle i was in.

Please dont get me wrong - i am in no way, shape or form saying i wanna do that again in a hurry - exciting as it was - i cannot dispute that part - its too much of an expensive and arguable dangerous way of having fun -although no-one was hurt on this occasion. Cats may have nine lives - I only fluked one!!

Anyway, on a positive note - which is what this site initially promised to deliver - it provided a days woth of material for my blog.

Peace.

A Tribute to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Readers,

Unfortunately, one of my all time favourite football players retired yesterday. After 7 glorious years and 4 injury stricken years playing for my beloved Manchester United, Solskjaer was forced to retire due to persistent injuries and didnt even get a chance for a known final appearance let alone season for the Old Trafford faithful to cheer the legend that walked - albeit slightly hampered for the last 4 years - amongst men.

Solskjaer was the epitome of class - class that is so visibly lacking in todays game where you have diving, invisible card waving and revenge tackles. None of this was ever seen emerging from the personality of Solskjaer on or off the pitch. Never in his 11 years as a representative for my great club did i read about him on the front pages - only ever the back pages and didnt he glorify those? It almost brings a tear to the eye.

Now before a bunch of people complain about Solskjaer's foul on Rob Lee when he was clean through on goal many moons ago - it was a deliberate trip - which was given the appropriate punishment laid down by the law - it was hardly going to cause Rob Lee an injury - it was merely another example of one of the qualities of the great man. - that being loyalty!

How many players are willing to spend so much time on the bench when they would walk into a good 75% of the teams in the premier division of our country alone? They are indeed a dying breed. Does this make him lazy? unambitious? 6 league titles, 2 FA Cups and the Uefa Champions League to his name along with 120+ goals mainly scored over the first 7 seasons which werent injury stunted is your answer - he may have been a substitute - but not a lazy, unused, unambitious or ineffective one! Rather the opposite in every one of the above!

I like every other true United fan firstly thank him for his loyalty and gracing us with his class on and off the pitch for the last 11 years and wish him all the best for the future whatever he decides to do in the future.

Ever been mistaken as a daddy at 24?

Readers,

I went for a swim down the residential pool today and met this 11 year old kid down there. Pretty ordinary 11 year old kid - so there we are both swimming along - him yappin about how much he looooves swimming - me nodding my head and smiling - it was fun - for him! I digress.

So anyway, about an hour or so later a mummy and her three kids come to the pool right.... now this 11 year old kid told me he is on holiday from new york.. and he got on so well with the other kids even though they just met thatI gathered it was his family.

So there they are swimming along.. happy families or so it appeared - i got out the pool and was just chilling in the sun trying to pick up a tan - rumour has it women like us men tall, dark and handsome... now i cant really do anything with the height i been given.. handsome.. well i dont like to boast as such and now a chance to dARKEN up - 2/3 cant be bad!

so anyway back to the story, this nice lady.. who by the by already earlier fed me a cheese cracker she prepared direct in my mouth when i came out the pool - dont get me wrong - she offered it in my hand - but my hands were wet.. one thing led to another.. and the next thing the cheese cracker was in my mouth. I was thinkin is this mamma like hittin' on me? but then i thought naww - its just a nice american lady - be happy!

so on the story goes.. she is feedin some fish in the lake next to the pool... and she summons me over.. summons is a bad word.. again she was being nice... so i went over and watched the fish all make a dash for the bread as she chucked it in.

AND THEN theeee moment.... 'do you want to call your boy over to see the fish too?'
I didnt hear right - i mean of course i didnt.. sure i hadnt shaved in a while - but damn im on holiday - its one of the perks! but no - she repeated and repeated again... and followed an akward silence followed by me returnin to my seat and perhaps her realising im a lot younger than i look - or then again probably not!

Moral of the story i hear you all pleading - did i ever say there was gonna be one?
Have a shave before a 40+ somethin feeds ya crackers and mistakes ya for a daddy - or if that aint good enough for ya - then make up your own!

Ciao folks - be back tomorrow hopefully.

Holidays

Readers,

Blimey - its been a while since I've done this. Hope ya have all been healthy.

For those of you who dont know, i left my new job selling life insurance around a month or so ago and have been chilling ever since. Fortunately, I had enough money to take a long overdue vacation (thats right I am in America - i mean everywhere else us Brits go to is a 'holiday'!).

I learnt to realise traveling and holidaying is absolutely so much more incredible when you dont have an office, desk and annoying manager to visualise going back to the whole time.

Don't all go rushing into writing out resignation notes on postcards - cos i am fortunate that i still live with my folks so can afford such luxuries. Small mercies eh?

I will be back in London on the 11th of September but hopefully i will find some time in my all so busy holiday schedule to write some more. Aaah who am i kiddin? It aint busy and i will be back!

Take care people.

Patience

Dear Readers,

Do you practise the art of patience? More importantly - do you believe in the necessity of patience? "Good things come to those who wait" the commercials on our tellys have us believe!

Patience is the mark of people who have the ability to maintain a steady perspective on life. They are never over excited or over stressed whatever hand life deals them. Wouldnt that be a nice way to be? Its no fun agonising over mis-haps or getting angry and frustrated. Far more sensible to smile, put whatever it is in perspective and move on.

Theres a difference between exercising patience and the attitude of laziness and a care-free attitude. Effort is everything. But once maximum effort has been put in, the results must be accepted with patience and understanding even if not desirable.

It can't happen overnight - but practise makes perfect..... and perfecting the art of patience could lead to a fuller happier life with less unecessary lows created by lack of maintaining perspective.

Have a good evening folks. Chins up - its Friday tomorrow - that magical day!

Change

Dear Readers,

Are you afraid of change? Ever stopped to wonder how long its been since you started your job? Or how long its been since you moved house?

The only thing thats inevitable in this world is change. Nothing stays the same. Neighbours is moving to channel 5 next year for crying out loud - you see my point? Most of you probably dont to be fair - but think about it - we are in the digital age! Remember about 10 years ago when having a camcorder was so amazing - yet you find me a person who still owns one of those humungous pieces of equipment. Its one of the growing examples in life where size does matter - but in reverse order - ie the smaller the better!

I am not telling everyone that they must change everything or do it all at once - I am just saying - think about your own attitudes towards change. In fact - I am writing it more for my benefit than anyone elses! I am someone who is pretty much stuck in my ways - I am way too lazy to be bothered about buying phones that got the best megapixel cameras and radios and mp3 players - so so old fashioned me. If i want a camera or an mp3 player - i go out and buy one - if i want a phone - it means I want to call people and want people to be able to call me!

But truly - its not the right attitude because the technological world is rapidly evolving and if people like me arent careful we will become extinct. I can just imagine all my technology savvy friends and family telling me how they are all gonna buy the latest phone which will beam them up to the moon to live there(!) I exagerate a little sometimes - but its not cool being left behind.

But even more importantly than technology is life itself - fear of change causes complacency. Time to start asking if being complacent is a satisfactory way to spend your life? Dont get me wrong - some people are happy working the same job title with mild pay increases their whole life because they dont want the hassle - and its not my place to judge them - whatever makes them happy - but the question is - do these people make a concious choice to actually do that or is it their fear of change that they never even tried to overcome that made this life pass them by?

Back to work tomorrow so I better hit the sack so I am all refreshed for work tomorrow. Oh who am I kidding? You can be in a coma for a decade wake up and you feel knackered as soon as you realise those 6 awful words. "I" "got" "to" "go "to" "work".

Sweet dreams folks - and remember - if you want answers about anything - start asking the right questions and to the right people - starting with:

'Am I afraid of change?'

Birthdays

Dear Readers,

Remember when you were younger and you would say I am 7 and a half years old when someone would ask? Times were so good back then and yet we were in such a rush to grow up. Yet you look now - you get a bit older and you say you are nineteen or whatever it is you are till the Big Ben declares midnight on the day you are born! No more of this 'half' or 'three quarters' business - you wanna maintain the facade that you are still young!

Truth of the matter is that birthdays are only as important as the importance the person whose birthday it is gives it. Some get excited and buy a cake - others mourn the fact they are that bit closer to going six foot under! Me? I see it as another day - no more, no less. For what has really changed? Its not as though every year represents the only window of opportunity to do something. Nobody waits to reach a certain age before carrying out a task - unless of course its age restricted like driving or smoking or drinking - altho i think you will find the latter two makes little difference to people who want to do them anyway - and its more and more common to hear about crazy kids stealing cars and gettin themselves into accidents! - so you see the point - Perhaps birthdays can be scary because they make you realise how wasteful you have been with the time that has been given to you so far - but then isnt that realisation the best birthday present of all? Especially if you take it on and go on to make better use of the up coming year than all the years that preceded it?

Well i think so anyway.

Discipline

Dear Readers,

How well disciplined are you? Do you make split second decisions which you know you will later regret?

Today I bought a bag of Haribo sweets while waiting for the bus - and i ate virtually all of it and now I feel disgusted with myself. It is unhealthy, bad for the teeth, an appetite killer, expensive and worst of all.... it feeds the mentality that doing what I feel like at a moment of weakness is ok!

A lack of discipline is one of the core reasons for failure in any venture you take up in life. I am not talking about petty things like buying sweets - rather what it represents!

How many of you press the snooze three times before waking up? Why do we do it? (notice how I include myself - I am possibly the worst culprit!) - but isnt this a poor attitude? Didnt we set the alarm at an earlier time so we could have breakfast, perhaps shower, shave or get to work on time??? Cant we go to sleep a little earlier to make that earlier alarm be our only wake up call?

How many of us stop eating when our hunger is satisfied? When you get a take-away - notice how you are satisfied three quarters way through the meal but still happily buy deserts or seconds after you finished it???

If you are still thinking 'so what?' - you are missing the point.

Discipline doesnt guarantee success in everything but lack of it virtually guarantees failure in everything.

Self Belief

Readers,

Do you believe in yourselves? Can you reach out and turn your dreams into realities?
Well you better because if you dont - then how do you expect to make anyone else believe that you can? Exactly - you wont be able to!

'But what if i cant?' - Ever heard of the self fulfilling prophecy? This is where a thought causes the outcome. This is not to say that the outcome would have been different but for the thought - it may well be that the outcome would be precisely the same - but the thought could still be the main cause of the outcome because whether or not the outcome would have been different with a different thought can never be known as you cant turn back time!

I can imagine that the last paragraph can be very difficult to understand without a working example.... so lets use the example of a person who is learning to ride a bike - he falls off the first time and decides that it is an impossible thing for him to learn and that he will never be able to achieve it and therefore doesnt ever climb back on a bike again in his life. (In this example ths person dies without learning how to ride a bike) - now if this person did climb back on the bike - there is no guarantee that he ever would have learnt to ride the bike - some people are just destined to go their life without ever being able to do some stuff! But the point is - in this example.... the reason that he never learnt is because he believed he couldnt rather than he actually couldnt because whether or not he actually couldnt was never discovered as a 'fact'!

Do you want to go through life missing out on something because you were too much of a coward to give it your best shot in fear of failure? If so - I pity you for that is such a sad way to live. Scared someone is going to judge you if you keep climbing on the bike and dont ever learn to ride? Two things - why allow someone to have *that* much power over you????
and more importantly - close your eyes and imagine the satisfaction of riding the bike - without stabilisers people!!

Now close this page down and go away and give your dreams your best shot - and may the force be with you.

Work Hard or Work Smart?

Readers,

Ever stoppped to think if you work too hard and perhaps if you could accomplish the same success in less time?

In everything you do, you can either do it efficiently and fantastically well or take forever and still not do it to the same standard as someone else who could have taken half the time to do it.

Time to start working smarter guys - people who work too hard suffer from fatigue, lack of appreciation and soon become demotivated due to burn-out.

Simple way to avoid this happening is to make sure that when you are working - you are 100% switched on in what you are doing and are making a massive effort to enjoy what you are doing to avoid the pangs of daydreaming and doing things wrong due to a lack of concentration!

Doing this will allow you to enjoy your breaks more because you know it is well earnt considering the time spent working is so intense that the longer break is more than the due reward.

So, lets all enjoy our weekends in the safe knowledge we arent going to work too hard on Monday, but that we will rather work more effectively for the time we put in!

As for those of us that gotta work over the weekend, I bet you got a day or two of in the week so dont fret - your time will come.

Ciao folks.

Day Dreaming

Hallo Folks,

Its already Thursday again - blimey didn't the week whizz by fast? Hold your horses - it aint Friday so it aint whizzed by just yet! Anyway, lets suffice it to say - so far so quick!

Anyway, what I would like to talk about today is day dreaming. Have you ever stopped to ask yourself how often you day dream? In fact, it isnt even so much important as to how much you do it - but rather when in particular it happens.

It is a sign of boredom. I mean doing it in the bog is ok because lets be honest - its more exciting than concentrating on what we are doing at that moment.
But how about when we are working? Is it right to be daydreaming? Can we function properly whilst daydreaming? I mean you can argue drivers who deliver stuff must spend huge chunks of their working life day dreaming and still get their good delivered on time - but still.... what i am trying to say is - if you are in the habit of daydreaming too often - you gotta find ways of making your life more interesting because otherwise you ride the serious danger of:

Living in your own little fantasy world!

Now lets be honest - thats sad because whatever it is you are doing when you are daydreaming you obviously consider more important than the daydream itself because you havent stopped what you are doing to fully absorb yourself to the daydream!
You just havent found a way to harness your whole attention to whatever it is you are doing when the daydreaming occurs.

Something has got to give - daydreaming too often is not a good thing - it can create a feeling of lethargy, create the desire for procrastination and sow the seeds of inaction.

Take a stand here and now people - fight back against the lethal day dreaming bug before you become entrapped in a permanent day dream and the real world has passed you by completely.

What Sets you Apart?

Dear Readers,

Has it ever occured to you that life is a competition? Its arguably not a competition in a spiritual sense because God has enough space in heaven to stick us all there if we are good enough but in the secular world - its hugely competitive!
Think about what your occupation is right now... and now think about how many people are in exactly the same boat as you doing exactly what you are doing!

You got to start finding out what makes you tick and what sets you apart from the competition - ie everybody else just like you! There arent enough jobs, money or perfect life partners for everybody so you gotta start asking yourself what makes you special and different from everyone else on the market?

If you are struggling to answer - the good news is that you can begin choosing your passions and discovering yourself now. Think of something you've always wanted to do but always find excuses not to and I'm not talking about smoking with your mates cos it looks cool! Im talking about adventuruous stuff like writing a novel, bungee jumping, backpacking in thailand - I dont know - basically uncovering your passions and find out what makes you tick.

I can tell you all for free - if you dont know what sets you apart from in this world which is ultra competitive and getting increasingly competitive, how do you expect to be able to sell yourself to prospective employers or spouses or get promotion ahead of the guy who joined your company a year after you but is more self assured than you and knows what sets him apart? the answer - it aint gonna happen!

This world is a market place where you constantly have to sell yourself and tbe best salesman is he who knows the unique selling points of his products the best and can deliver them to his audience the best.

Remember this and this and it will serve you well. Ignore it at your peril.

Evenings

Dear Readers,

Do you not all see that evenings are almost as good as weekends? If we dont appreciate this time we are given to ourselves every single day - then we are unthankful and depressed beings. Thats pure tragic! Why wait for the weekend to come before we decide to let our hair down, laugh and be merry?!

Most of us are home at a reasonable hour but spend most evenings agonising over the fact the weekend is still x amount of days away! What a miserable way to spend an evening. One of my work colleagues spends all day talking about how he cannot wait to get home back to his championship manager game.

Now personally I am no longer a fan of that game for it is one hell of a waste of time - also I am not very good - at last the truth i hear you all exclaim!
But on a serious note - irrespective of the fact that you and I as sensible people may think - jeeeez- what a waste of time! - isnt it infinitely more sensible him playig champ manager and attaining pleasure from his evening than you and I agonising over the fact we got to attend the venue of our day jobs tomorrow?

Thats right - he is a happier being - and so we should too learn from the wisdom of the attitude - not the action - because lets be honest - champ manager is loooong!!!!
But hey - we can watch Big Brother I suppose - who is with me?? I sincerely hope no-one because I would like to think we are all too busy living our lives to be watchin a bunch of lunatics locked in a house together acting stupidly. It doesnt have to be leisure or fun - it can be productive - as long as it isnt spent thinking about the day thats just gone or the day that is to follow I say. Throw yourselves into action. Lets all get busy 24/7! A hectic life is so much more fun and productive than a clock watching life where you are constantly waiting for a certain time for something to happen. Life is way too short as it is and to waste a minute waitin for the minute after it to come is outright crazy!!!

Thats all for tonight folks.

Monday 9 July 2007

Dear Readers,

Did any of you ever stop to think one seventh of your life is spent on Mondays? Thats a lot of time isn't it? Especially if you suffer from 'Monday blues'. What I learnt though is that if you are the type of person to suffer from 'Monday blues' - it isnt so much Monday that destroys your mood - it is what you have to do on Monday - and chances are whatever it is you do on Monday you do from Monday all the way through to Friday anyway! Which by the way equates to a stonking 5/7 of your life!

Chasing the dime will never make you happy - pick something to do from your Mondays to Fridays that will make you happy - if you are lucky enough to be someone who enjoy their profession and makes a lot of money from it - count your lucky stars because believe you me - there arent many people out there like you.

For even most retired people havent the financial freedom to even enjoy their retirement! Or at least thats what they think - remember - money cant buy happiness - therefore why drive yourself bezerk giving yourself Monday blues one seventh of your life - and 4/7 doing the same thing you do on Mondays anyway????

Be inspired - every day is a fresh chance to reinvent yourself - every single day! Sound too idealistic? Sound too good to be true? Fine dont believe it - it will only be your downfall for disregarding this fact.

Why dont you try making a list of 5 things you want to achieve when you wake up tomorrow and before sleeping - see how many you can have achieved.... repeat the procedure every day... if it becomes a dailly challenge and you win more than you lose - eventually the list can start containing more difficult stuff - and you can reinivent and grow your spirit even further - doesnt the thought just fill you with adrenalin and the will to live? Me neither - but it should - come on readers!!! We can do this together.

My new motto is that i am going to tell myself i am not a man of thought - i am a man of action - and hopefully i will spend less time on here tellin us all what we should be thinkin - and more time doing what these pages are trying to inspire in others!!

Who is with me? Dont all post at once - aah who am i kidding? Not really much danger of that is there?

I'll be back.

Home Made Haircuts

Dear Readers

Sunday is coming to a close - still thankfully I witnessed the most incredible Wimbledon Mens Singles Final that has taken place in years! What fantastic tv!!

Anyway, the thing I learnt this weekend is that home made haircuts are fantastic. I was fortunate enough to get a fantastic freebie haircut from one of my generous cousins who was actually happy to do it because apparently he has always wanted to give someone a haircut! Now i know you are thinking to yourselves - 'you trusted your hair to someone who aint cut hair before???' - to which I answer - duh! Its freee!!!

Suppose you were all right and he messed it up (which by the way we now know he didnt because I am happy with it!) - but suppose he did - I coulda always gone to the barber - paid £4 and got a number 2 all round and bob's your uncle - sorted!

Point is - dont be so narrow minded when it comes to saving money - yesterday I saved £4 on a haircut - tomorrow I might find that eating paper is nutritious!! The opportunities to save money are too many to count - I say lets all go out and start discovering them - what have we to lose?!?!

Next time my mobile phone turns itself off after beeping a few times and saying 'battery low' - perhaps i should make some enquires as to what this 'battery' thing is and if it can be charged before going out and buying a new mobile! I feel invigorated and inspired and I would love you to all make the journey with me.

Right now, I have to go because its that special time on a Sunday afternoon where I drink my 4th cup of tea. Have a blissful Sunday evening folks - and I pray you understood the sarcasm of the latter parts of this post or I shant have any readers left for tomorrows material because ya shall all consider me a damn fool.

Saturday 7 July 2007

Dear Readers,

First of all, I would just like to tell you all and remind myself how happy I am that I can go to sleep tonight again in the safe knowledge that I dont have to go to work tomorrow! Its probably the most brilliant feeling in the world after winning the national lottery (I guess - I have never won - but then I have never played!) Lets just say - its pretty amazing and the only shame is that the feeling doesnt come often enough and doesnt last long enough - but then arguably thats what makes it so special in the first place.

My bit of advice to my readers for this saturday is to do with social skills. We live in a world where it is essential that people like us and think good of us. People who say 'who cares what the world thinks of you?' are wrong because the 'world' will only think of you what you put out for them to see - thus if the whole world is telling you that you are fat - where theres smoke there is fire - and you know how I feel about cliches!

Of course there are exceptions to the rule, but generally speaking, it is most advisable to be seen as an agreeable person in life because it will prove to your benefit. If you look at the most successful businessmen and famous people, they were all likeable people - loveable people - who always smile - dont participate in gossiping and rumour mongering etc.

If you want the world to like you, treat the people of the world the way you would like to be treated and you can be successful beyond your wildest dreams. Ignore this fact and choose to fight against the world - and the world can be a very lonely and scary place. The decision is ultimately yours dear readers. Social skills are not hard to learn - they consist of common sense and the willingness to improve and be the best you can - these two ingredients will stand in you all in fantastic stead to meet the perfect state you are capable of. Question is - do you want it?

Want what? A fuller happier life created by living by the principles of good social etiquette! Generally speaking - everyone wants it - in which case - ask yourself the question more often and start acting on what you tell yourself you want and you will actually start getting it!!!

Have a good sunday dear readers - hopefully will find some time, energy and material to say more tomorrow. Right now I am beat so am going to turn in.

Friday 6 July 2007

cliches

Dear Readers,

I have been away from my blog for the last couple of days because my computer was infested with trojan viruses - not a pleasing scenario at the best of times! I am not sure of the exact status of the computer right now so I guess I wont be doing anything important on here like logging into my online account till I have formatted - which is going to be a right pain in the place the sun doesnt shine because I am not really altogether computer savvy. Ho Hum - with telesupport from my helpful cousin -perhaps i will begin to bridge the gap between me and computer savvy - sure doesnt help having my brother who loves computers move to America - but the show has gotta go on I suppose - or so i keep hearing - stupid cliche!

Or are cliches stupid at all? If we all stop to ponder how cliches became cliches in the first place - we would realise that they are not stupid at all. In fact they were once so profound that they were so often repeated in so many quarters that they have become cliches! So basically the wisdom contained in cliches are the sort of wisdom we would be wise to follow! Now of course this doesnt apply to ALL cliches - you have got to use some of your own initiative to work out which ones should apply to you and which ones shouldnt.

we will take an example two cliches - 'lets not cry over spilt milk' - bloody amazing - isnt it stupid to cry over spilt milk because after all - crying till you have created another ocean aint gonna bring the milk back and likewise worrying about anything that has happened wont bring the time back to correct the fault -so quit worrying - its sound and we should follow it.

second cliche - 'when in rome, do as the romans do' - if you are a spineless jellyfish - then this is another marvellous principle to base your life on! Blend in with whatever type of people you arw with - However - upon closer inspection - you realise that maybe this isnt right - perhaps its better to know who you are, what your principles are and follow them whether in Rome, the UK or the bloody Moon!!!

The point I am making is that analyse the wisdom and relevance a 'cliche' could have to your life next time someone points one out to you rather than pointing out the fact that it is a cliche - because chances are the person saying the cliche never thought he was the first person to come up with the philosophy anyway! He was offering advice in what was once seen as tremendously profound and we would all do well to actually remember that!!

Anyway, I must hit the sack - early to bed, early to rise.... and i cant remember how the cliche ends... what a shame!

Hopefuly be back tomorrow - watch this space

Boredom

Dear Readers,

What i have realised recently is that boredom is a state we achieve when we have too much time on our hands. Seeing as almost everybody reading this is probably reading it because they are bored, you are probably included in this huge bracket of people that suffer from boredom quite regularly.

Boredom is a terrible vice because it is an incredible waste of time and the effects can be quite damning because it brings about negative thoughts and emotions. What if we all used our boredom as a springboard to action? Take up a new hobby that kills boredom, enhances the mind and avoids the negative thoughts and emotions that boredom takes everywhere it goes!
What hobby i hear you all screaming at your monitors??? - well i dont know do i - i am not you - how am i meant to know what interests you the most?!

If you are a practical person - get busy doing chores - fixing stuff or whatever it is you enjoy.
if you are creative - start drawing or painting again.
If you are a reader - buy some books - readers are quite lucky because of the sheer volume of different types of material there is out there - joke books, novels, reference books, self help books - spend less time being bored and more time becoming the person you want to be!

whatever it is - spring into action and do it now!!! no wait - finish reading this first - please?

Ok enough of for today - i am going to go watch reruns of Macgyver I have on my sky+
Oh yeah and dont judge me - I didnt say my advice was for me to follow too.... or even more to the point - maybe watching Macgyver is a hobby? It certainly goes down well with a cuppa tea i tell ya! I dont know - i never claimed to have all the answers.

Take it easy readers - stay safe and remember:

Happiness lies in the wisdom to get too busy to suffer from boredom and the problems associated with it.

Ps - Macgyver - heeeere I coooome!!!

'I dont have time'

Dear Readers,

How many times has someone told you or have you told someone else that you dont have the time to do something? Too many times! How many times was it actually true? Probably the best part of 0 for most of us! It is the one excuse for not doing something that I personally despise the most because of its inherent false nature.

How many people find time to watch films they have seen before multiple times? How many people find time to watch television program serieses without ever missing a show? you see - when you are interested enough in something - time is never ever an issue - why? because you make time!

Next time you are asked to do something you dont want to do - dont insult your fellow mans intelligence by telling them you havent got the time. Or perhaps if you believe you are one of those people who *really* hasnt got the time, then evaluate how you spend your time - and check out your priorities- you might find yourself amazed at the time you can spare for things that are more important than the things you have scheduled right now.

Eastenders really worth 30 minutes 4 days a week???? There you go - interesting isnt it? Dont get me wrong people - if you can fit in all the important stuff like your three sqaure meals etc as well as eastenders - dont go giving it up for no reason!! Especially if you got sky+ and can watch it at your leisure!! But you see the point... as valuable a commodity as time is, dont go pretending that you are running on empty when you clearly aint because it is pure and simple disrespectful.

Now without further ado, lets all enjoy the rest of the small time left we have before we begin the next working week - if we indeed have the time to enjoy it.

A Tribute to Allen Carr

Dear Readers,

We are approximately 11 and a half hours away from moving into the 'smoke free' era in the UK and I am sure there are a lot of anxious smokers out there who are not best pleased about the situation to put it mildly!

Little over two months ago, I too was one of the smokers frustrated and depressed by the thought of the ban that was up and coming. However, I was fortunate enough to be able to relieve myself from the habit thanks to the late Allen Carr. For those of you who dont know who he is - google him - and you will find that he is the greatest quitting smoking guru that has ever graced our planet. I personally cannot thank the man enough for his work because it is through his efforts that both I personally and two of my closest relatives have managed to succeed in their quest to quit smoking. Unfortunately, he had already passed from this life by the time I benefitted from his book so i didnt actually get the opportunity to thank him. May God have mercy on his soul.

I would just like to urge all the readers to try and obtain a copy of his book - the easy way to quit smoking for any relatives or friends of yours who you know that still smoke - the success rate of people stopping after reading his books is phenomenal - and think - if you are the one to pass the book on to someone who reads it and quits - how grateful will that person be to you for the rest of their lives? You can add years to their lives, save them heaps of money, keep them looking younger and most importantly - you dont have to put up with that foul smell!

I leave you all with the humble request to spread the word of Allen Carr's easyway to those who dont already know of it.

Can Money Buy Happiness?

Dear Readers,

Its Friday at last! I am guessing you all know what that means? Weekend! Come on!! Two whole days of pure bliss!!! Its the little things in life that make the big difference - the joy of a weekend for instance.

You see for a long time in my life - I thought the source of all happiness was money and the source of all unhapiness was lack of money. Is this true? Can money buy happiness? Well it depends on your definition and comprehension of 'happiness' and the personality of the people in question. Such a question can never be satisfactorily answered in a word.

My understanding is that true happiness doesnt lie in what you have, but what you recognise that you have. One of the great leaders in my religion said that if a man had a garden full of gold, and his next door neighbour had one too, he wouldnt be happy unless he had his neighbours garden too. The point is that if happiness is measured by monetary wealth, you can never reach a stage of serenity because you will forever be chasing more money - and God knows you cant take it to the grave when you die so why base your emotions on something so limited.

If I had to answer in a word - then it would have to be no. True happiness is found in people who have learnt to be grateful for what they have rather than too busy and ungrateful chasing after the riches of the world. I have worked in retail and I have seen happier people working as supervisors for supermarkets earning a pittance, working ridiculously hard but yet happier than millionaires who run companies who cant sleep at night because of tension of trying to make more more more more money.

The realisation that money is a lot but not everything was probably one of the greatest realisation i have made in my short life - but the realisation can release so much energy - it can bring about the feeling of serenity which people chasing all the money in the world will never get.

My leaving words for the day are a question -

do you really believe money can buy you happiness - and if you know it cant - why do you still let it rule over your will to achieve serenity and happiness?

Reading

Dear Readers,

Another day worked, another day closer to the weekend - just the one day left now! I cant describe how good that is in words!

I recently bought a copy of a book called Why People Dont Buy Things and thankfully it finally arrived in the mail this morning. Working in the sales industry, I am hoping it will give me an edge.

What I have found in recent times that reading at least one chapter of a non fictional book every day is an excellent habit to form. You increase your knowledge, concentration, command of the English language and most importantly - you are building a good habit.

I recently read a book called 'The Greatest Saleman in the World' by Og Mandino - which was a tremendous read which I wholeheartedly recommend to all the readers of this blog (all one of you!) - and it is from this book that I learnt the power and importance of reading.

In future - I think I will review books on this site - because already I am begining to realise I cannot produce fresh material every day on how to keep positive without plagiarising! Thus I can slow down the amount I post on here - or I can fill the space with other random stuff like book reviews! Finding writing something about anything on my blog on a daily basis therapeutic means I am gonna do just that!!

Right now - I have to go - but to summise the days thoughts - read non-fiction as much as possible to broaden your horizons. No pressure!

I hope I find the time and energy to write more tomorrow.

Faith

Dear Readers,

Another day closer to that glorious period of every week more commonly known as the weekend and I for one cannot wait! No - i dont have any special plans for the weekend but thats what makes the weekend so special - my plans arent already made for me - unlike every working day where the plan to wake up ridiculously early and follow the whole sordid routine to its conclusion!

Anyway, my thought for the day is to do with faith. I consider myself lucky because I believe in God and more importantly I have faith in God's love for me. The thought of trying to negotiate my way through this life without these two beliefs would be impossible for me. Think about it - if there is no God - the alternative is pretty useless - it means that I am the product of an accident and my existence carries no significance at all. If there is a God but he doesnt love me - why have I been showered with so many blessings such as sight, hearing, the sense of smell, the ability to speak, love, acquire knowledge and most importantly think???

I reckon that almost everyone has these two beliefs within them but just dont concentrate on them enough to learn the ease with which a worry free life can be led. Think about it - once these two simple concepts are accepted - then what cannot be overcome??? The fact that you were fashioned by the maker of all things and the fact that he loves you should make you feel invincible!! I mean God has power over everything and loves you - so he is going to look after you! Now i am guessing theres a few cynics who are going to argue over the two points.......

does God even exist? Look at the world - the capability of the human being, the animal kingdom, the planets, the mountains, the reproduction system and you reckon it all happened without a superior intelligence fashioning all this???? Look at three of the biggest religions in the world - Islam, Christianity and Judaism and they all recognise Adam, Abraham, Moses, Noah and several other prophets who came to spread the word about God's religion. Are all the believers of these religions fools to believe in these men??? Some people will tell you religion is a way that past rulers made people do what they wanted - usually such people are still okay admitting that they do believe in a God ironically!!!

Does God love us? What about all the natural disasters and people being born disabled etc etc??? The second argument people often throw up! My personal belief is that this world is a place of trial - there is no reward or punishment here - we are tested here and rewarded or punished in the life here-after. But to answer in a simpler manner, the very fact that we have been created and given the chance to know that we exist is love in itself!! Blind people, deaf people, etc - they are lucky still that God decided to bring them into existence for without them being created - they wouldnt even have the blessings they have - so why count the blessings God chose to withold? Also if there wasnt blindness, deafness etc - how would those who have these phenomenal blessings appreciate what it is they have been blessed with?

I dont know if you are convinced - if you didnt believe in God before reading this or didnt believe God loves you before reading this - then you probably still wont believe it because generally such people are quite stubborn in their views.

However, if you agree with the statements - recite the two facts to yourself as much as possible:

"I believe in God and my God loves me" - this simple notion can protect you from worry because it brings about peace and tranquility to ones heart and soul and when you feel at ease in your heart and soul - worry can not infiltrate you - you are in safe haven!

Thats all I have to say for today. God willing, I will be back tomorrow.

'New Years Resolutions'

Dear Readers,

Today was the day off I briefly mentioned yesterday - as expected and like all good things - its hasnt lasted! Its already 6-30 pm UK time so if I was working, I would be close to home now anyway. Never mind, i had the pleasure of not being at work so who cares if I would be home now because I have not been at work all day which i otherwise would have been!!

Anyway, my thought for the day is to do with new years resolutions. I have in the past been a fan of new years resolutions - before there is any mass confusion - no they dont work but the idea of repairing yourself is quite pleasing.

Giving the concept some extra thought today made me realise the idea of self repair is sound but the idea of waiting for the begining of a year to implement it is ridiculous. Who knows if you and I will even be alive on January 1st next year to implement all the wonderful things we would so dearly love to put into action? Also in light of the fact that so many resolutions fail - why not try, try and try again from NOW so that by the time the new year actually comes - it might produce the final springboard to making your resolutions a reality rather than pinning all your hopes on the fact it is a new year.

I say make a new days resolution becaus every day is a new begining - you cant turn the change the past - but you can make TODAY whatever you want it to be. Wanna give up smoking? I didnt see the people who decided on the July 1st smoking ban wait till 'the new year'!! Wanna get educated?? I dont see GCSE, A Level, NVQ or any other formal education courses starting in the new year - in fact they all start nearer the end of the year- septemberish!!

Open your eyes people - every day can be a new year - and you can make all the resolutions you want and try your best to make them happen now! Stop waiting for things to happen and instead start making it happen yourself!!! Also stop being so afraid of failure because you can always try again tomorrow!! Tell yourself out loud that every day that it is a new begining and it can be whatever you want to make it and forget the nonsense you hear that 'talking to yourself is the first sign of madness'! Only crazy people tell you that or the selfish people who dont want the rest of the world to enjoy the wisdom of talking to oneself.

To summise - Recite your new days resolutions to yourself as much as possible because it is the cheapest and safest therapy on the market.

Hopefully be back tomorrow.....

enjoy what you have

readers,

You will be pleased to hear I got tomorrow off work!!! Ok even if you lot arent - i am!! I swear there aint enough annual leave on offer - still - could be worse - could be in America - i have heard you get even less annual leave across the pond than you do here! I suppose the trick is to become self employed and enjoy the good life although self employed people will tell you that aitn fun either. Perhaps there is no right answer - anyway - I cant help but feel i am getting side tracked here!

My thoughts for the day about enjoying what you got - so so important for so many reasons - I am going to touch on the two main ones.

One - In this transient world - the good stuff comes and goes so quick that if you dont stop to appreciate it - it wont actually be there anymore to appreciate it - like my day off tomorrow - if i dare to blink - its going to be wednesday morning and i will be getting ready for work again!

Two - To not enjoy the good stuff is just damn ungrateful - theres so many people who aint even got the internet to be reading this - and the fact you have makes you better off than 97.4564% of the population of the world we live in (at the time of writing). Now being ungrateful creates its own set of problems which i have neither the time nor the energy to delve into right now ( some would argue i dont know what they are) - but lets not talk about that right now!

I tell you what though - when you do appreciate what you have - you are a more happier human being than even the richest people in the world - because they are too busy not even sure what they are chasing.

i read an awesome quote recently - everyone thinks that they know what they want - but only the wisest stop to enjoy it once they have got whatever it is they wanted - the rest are too busy finding something else to stress about - what a sad state of affairs.

Dont think I am advocating complacency and lack of ambition - I hate a waste of potential as much as anyone - but competitiveness and the will to win should not override our enjoyment of our victories because we are not in the world long enough to spend the whole time too busy to participate in complete harmony and enjoyment of the gratefulness of what we have been given!

Anyways readers I am off to enjoy the end of work and blog duties.

Hopefully speak to y'all tomorrow.

Peace out.

Unburden Yourselves

Dear Readers,

I attended the wedding of a close relative yesterday and was away from my beloved internet for the best part of 48 hours and thats why I havent been able to share my thoughts. I hope that too many of you havent been logging on to this site every 5 minutes wondering why i havent posted something new because - lets face it and i am gonna be candid about this - that would be pure sad! still i am sure those of you who did are smart enough not to admit it.

My random thought for the weekend is about carrying the burden of all your worries by yourself. Now i know that to say a problem shared is a problem halved is cliched and people dont like cliches - so i am going to talk about burdens from a slightly different perspective. If you can share it with someone - do so! No matter how ashamed you are or concious of appearing self absorbed - sharing a problem will help yourself identify precisely what the problems are and every now and again - believe this or not - but people who have just experienced the problem for the first time can provide some very useful incites on how to solve the problem!

Not everyone is fortunate enough to have a confidante with whom they can share their worries - write yourself an email at the end of every day expressing what it is you are worried about exactly and when you read over what you have written - you will find immediate solace in the fact that you have identified the core issues and now that you know precisely what they are - you can focus your attentions on the solutions to these problems.

I think to summise the point I will state the essence of this point in a single line:

the biggest burden that most human beings carry is the inability to precisely identify the root causes of their worries.

Stop - think! If you could identify precisely what it is you are worried about at the end of every day before you sleep - how easier would it be finding solutions to these precise problems rather than solutions for vague worries? If the answer to this question is something you are finding heart warming, you can live a life a lot less burden free than you have known before. Share your problems! If you aint got anyone - drop me a line at moostee90@hotmail.com if you want - or even write yourself an email- you would be amazed at how therapeutic it can prove!

I got to crash because I got work tomorrow, but I should be back tomorrow.

Breathe deeply and remember an identified problem is a lot more solvable than a vague worry!

Sleeping

Readers,

For a very long time, I considered sleeping a grand old waste of time because lets face it - time spent sleeping could be spent surfing the net, watching telly or out with friends!

But apparently its not - more careful consideration and you realise that sleeping is fantastic because you can well and truly let all the demons that haunt you during your awake hours to rest. Not only that right - but nature demands sleep! Think of the insomniacs in our world. Ask yourselves what would they give to be able to sleep the way normal - no not normal for what is "normal"? - rather for the way most people can sleep. The answer is probably a lot more than us normal people can imagine.

Sleeping is a gift from nature which is probably one of the most under appreciated of them all. I mean imagine a world without needing to sleep - it would be torment! You would be thinking conciously all day every day! If you are a worrier - you would be worrying all day every day!

Before sleeping tonight dear readers, remember how much of a gift sleeping is and you will sleep better and wake up feeling more invigorated and ready to battle the world again tomorrow.

And if you have the misfortune of having anightmare, thank the Lord when you awaken because it was not real and of course for the fact he has given you the chance to live to fight another day.

On a lighter note - its Friday so if you cant sleep peacefully knowing the weekend is upon us - then nothing i can say will really help i suppose.

Sweet dreams guys - hopefully i will find the time and material to fill tomorrows space......

"Staff Night Out"

Dear Readers,

Its that time of the day again where I unload - no no i aint taking a dump - im talking about the metaphorical meaning - unburden myself by sharing my interpretation of todays 'staff night out'.

As a reward for doing so well last month - we were to be rewarded by going out as a company on a massive pub crawl. Being hesitant to attend made me feel like an outsider and it became a lot easier agreeing to attend for a 'quick one' to be agreeable. instead i ended up taking a train from aldgate to farringdon - standing outside a pub for 20 minutes because we were waiting for somebody to go home and meet us there before starting the pub crawl - being a non-drinker and hanging out with a bunch of people getting excited by how drunk they might get tonight - i had enough and called it a night - what an incredible waste of money and time!!!!

lesson? dont be agreeable when its just stupid - i think being taken in by peer pressure is the most dangerous thing in the world - in fact its probably the wrongest thing in the world - too many people dont think for themselves- they go with the crowd - stop and think - you go to sports shops and see a super thin t-shirt being priced up at £25 because it has a 'nike' tick on it - 99 out of 100 people who stopped to use their own powers of logic wouldnt go near it with a bargepole - yet these t-shirts must be selling because you dont see the price ever going down - in fact it only goes up!

now fortunately today i only lost a few pounds going in and out of the tube and an hour odd of my time before summing up the courage to escape the dreaded peer pressure. Beware or you might not get off so lightly!

Now I know that this has started out and become an arguable unecessarily extended rant - but there is a huge lesson to be learnt -

tune in tomorrow to learn what that is.

i am kidding - couldnt do that to you good people!

The lesson is that Make a concious effort to know what your own values are, where they have come from and why they are what they are and this will stand you in excellent stead to combat peer pressure which could have potentially otherwise made you sick at the thought of your actions for many years after the event.

Don't get me wrong - i am not advocating living in the past - in fact you are reading this - i suggest you go back and read (or re-read earlier posts) where i explicitly stated let the past stay just there! ok anyway, i am getting to the stage where i dont know if i am preaching for your benefit or for my own and so i will let us take our customary 24 hour recess.

Driving!!

Dear Readers, (or by this point should i be calling you fans?)

Another day passes, another driving lesson with my dad (dont judge - they are free!) - and another day closer to my driving test. Fun times ahead for some of us i tell ya.

Driving - i think it is easy - as does everyone - God knows we got millions of drivers all over the world! but passing a driving test in the UK? well thats a completely different kettle of fish - i seen many a good driver flunk those before - i mean where else in the world do you regularly hear about people taking it four or five times - you dont!

dont get me wrong people - i think i can learn to drive like a robot for 35 mins - but its kinda stoopid having to because no-one drives anywhere remotely as cautiously as they do in driving school - if they did could you imagine the state of the world? we would have a bunch of people who turn into zombies upon operating the complex machinery known as a car! interesting isnt it? well i think so anyway - quite clearly i do or i wouldnt have bothered ranting about it.

anyway - my light hearted advice which equates to the 'random positivity' for the day is to do with imitation. I have heard two views on imitation which initially appear far apart. one is that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and the other is that imitation is suicide. However, upon deeper thought - flattery is a bad thing so be it sincere or otherwise - it is undesirable.

There is a fine line between being inspired by somebody and aspiring to be that somebody - make sure you err on the side of caution - ie dont try to be something you aint cos its a losing battle and potentially the cause of mental torment.

so to summise in a line - know who you are; be who you are; like you who you are and the world will be yours.

ok i think that just about wraps up my thoughts for the day. If you folks have had half as much fun reading as i have writing, then we are in this together for the long haul!
