quick fire telly recommendations

Hello people,

I have not been a regular poster on this blog for a long time due to the fact that i forgot all about it and only recently had an idea to serialise the translation of the whole Qu'ran into english with 10 verses a day.

For anyone interested in reading this - feel free to visit:

http://quran-in-small-doses.blogspot.com/

Unfortunately i have not posted on there for the best part of a week but intend to pick it up again soon.

Since I last posted (with the exception of the retraction to the 'stupidity' post) - i have come across a lot of good television programs which i would like to share with you all.

so very quickly

i) smallville - for all you superman fans out there - i suggest you download this fantastic show from the first episode of the first series and work your way through. It is truly awesome telly and worth making the effort to watch in chronological order.

ii) Killpoint - for all you fans of dramas or films involving hostage situations - this is a stupendous 8 part drama which will have you glued firmly to your seat for a weekend except while you are dumping or showering.. and some people - even then!

iii) Tru Calling - this is a brilliant sci fi show - unfortunately they only made 26 eps and it was canned in the midst of the second series... still 26 maginificent shows for those with time to burn!

You are all very welcome.

Peace

change of heart

Hello people,

a long time ago i posted a youtube video of miss south carolina making a fool of herself at a beauty pageant and since then i recently came across a video in which she redeems herself.

In the interests of justice, i feel it right to revoke my harsh comments (which in my defence were only made for a few cheap laughs) - and also share the video of her doing herself proud.

What is greater - wealth or knowledge?

Peace,

Have you ever stopped to ask yourself whether you would rather be ridiculously wealthy or have gained vast amounts of knowledge?

This question was posed by 10 learned men to Imam Ali (peace be on him) over 1,400 years ago. The divinely appointed Imam answered each man with the answer of knowledge being superior with a different reason and i thought I would share the wisdom in his answer with any readers who may still visit this page in spite of my recent laziness in adding anything to it.

*Imam Ali as answered in ten parts:

1. Knowledge is the legacy of the Prophets; wealth is the inheritance of the Pharaohs. Therefore, knowledge is better than wealth.
2. You are to guard your wealth but knowledge guards you. Therefore, knowledge is better.
3. A man of wealth has many enemies, while a man of knowledge has many friends. Hence, knowledge is better.
4. Knowledge is better because it increases with distribution, while wealth decreases by that act.
5. Knowledge is better because a learned man is apt to be generous while a wealthy person is apt to be miserly.
6. Knowledge is better because it cannot be stolen while wealth can be stolen.
7. Knowledge is better because time cannot harm knowledge but wealth rusts in course of time and wears away.
8. Knowledge is better because it is boundless while wealth is limited and you can keep account of it.
9. Knowledge is better because it illuminates the mind while wealth is apt to blacken it.
10.Knowledge is better because knowledge induced the humanity in our Prophet to say to GOD “We worship thee as we are your servants,” while wealth engendered in Pharaoh and Nimrod the vanity which made them claim god-head.

I hope you enjoyed the pearls of wisdom emanating from the commander of the faithful, Ali son of Abu Talib (peace be with him) and if God wills, I will share some more stories from his extraordinary example of how life should be lived in the future.

Peace be with you all.

Satanic Verses

Readers,

As no doubt many if not all of you are aware, Salman Rushdie wrote a highly controversial book many years ago for which he was widely condemned by the muslims and had a fatwa for his head.

I have never read the book, nor come across anyone who has so have always reserved judgment as to whether what he said was worthy of the fatwa for his death placed on him.

Fortunately, I have just come across a 14 part lecture on youtube on 'How Rushdie fooled the West' by the great late Shaykh Ahmad Deedat (may Allah have mercy on his soul). It is absolutely fascinating that it is not only the holy prophet of Islam (pbuh and hp) but also many other people including Margaret Thatcher and Londoners - only the readers perceive it not.

Without going into any more depth so as not to ruin your enjoyment of Shaykh Ahmad Deedat's delivery, I strongly recommend you all to listen to it. It is lengthy, and it is a royal pain in the place the sun doesnt shine to have to keep loading the next part but there is a lot to be gained.

Quick warning though - it is not suitable material to listen to if you are a prude or just sensetive to foul language - Shaykh Ahmad Deedat is not inherently foul mouthed - rather the language of the book he is quoting is full of expletives and it would be otherwise impossible for him to do his topic justice without quoting Rushdie's foul words and translating other foul words from hindi.

Can God ever be seen?

Readers,

the topic of seeing God has been raised by many human beings and takes two main forms. the first is that 'if God cannot be seen, then how can I believe in Him?' and the second is 'Will we see God on judgment day?' - the second being disputed amongst different schools of thought. There are those who believe God can put himself into the body of a man (ie Jesus pbuh) and there are those who say that God cannot do that because he would then be confined in one place or partitioned and it is not God if He is confined to a place or partitioned.

Whilst listening to the late shaykh Ahmad Deedat earlier today, he said something fantastic about 'seeing God' He said that human beings cannot even look at the sun directly which is merely a creation of God without blinding themselves and yet they ask why they cannot see God. Can you imagine how bright the light which made Sunlight must be?

I would recommend Shaykh Deedat's lectures to everybody looking to gain an insight into comparative religion. You can find them on Peace tv, sky channel 823 or on youtube - or if you are really adventurous you can search his stuff on torrents to download.

Peace be with you all.
