Dear Readers,
Remember when you were younger and you would say I am 7 and a half years old when someone would ask? Times were so good back then and yet we were in such a rush to grow up. Yet you look now - you get a bit older and you say you are nineteen or whatever it is you are till the Big Ben declares midnight on the day you are born! No more of this 'half' or 'three quarters' business - you wanna maintain the facade that you are still young!
Truth of the matter is that birthdays are only as important as the importance the person whose birthday it is gives it. Some get excited and buy a cake - others mourn the fact they are that bit closer to going six foot under! Me? I see it as another day - no more, no less. For what has really changed? Its not as though every year represents the only window of opportunity to do something. Nobody waits to reach a certain age before carrying out a task - unless of course its age restricted like driving or smoking or drinking - altho i think you will find the latter two makes little difference to people who want to do them anyway - and its more and more common to hear about crazy kids stealing cars and gettin themselves into accidents! - so you see the point - Perhaps birthdays can be scary because they make you realise how wasteful you have been with the time that has been given to you so far - but then isnt that realisation the best birthday present of all? Especially if you take it on and go on to make better use of the up coming year than all the years that preceded it?
Well i think so anyway.
